Sites such as cdjapan now have a listing for the domestic release of Battle Royale 2 on DVD and an Overseas version on Video CD. Unfortunately all releases listed so far will be without english subs but I would imagine that fansubbed versions selling on ebay will follow....
The Video CD is released on 11th November and will feature Chinese subs.
The DVD is released on 21st December and has an Anamorphic transfer, a 5.1 mix and a bucketload of extras. There will also be a special limited edition boxset.
An Overseas versions with English subs is expected in the early part of 2004 but is unlikely to have many of the domestic special features.

Well the distribution deal has indeed been set with Tartan predictably snagging the rights. This is both good and bad as far as theatrical releases go.
good
The film will have a theatrical release
bad
Tartan only ever seems to get movies screened in UGC Cinemas meaning if there's not one near you, forget it.
Of course as this is a bigger film that usual it may make it to a few more cinemas, but we'll have to wait and see. I'll be getting that dbl disc set anyways.

Not strictly true - Tartan distributed movies also see the light of day at Cineworld Multiplex cinemas and Odeon.

well, I can only speak locally, but our Odeon never got a sniff of Dark Water. I'll admit there's a few exceptions tho. I saw Audition at UCI, so here's hoping.

I think it's safe to say that given the current attention which Asian Cinema is receiving, coupled with the infamy of the first BR and it's huge home video audience, BR 2 will receive a much wider release than the first.
I hope you get to see it theatrically - the import DVD will be out before that but nothing beats the big screen! Maybe all the UK based Snowblooders should plan a get-together weekend and go see it somewhere? What do you think?

yeh if we make it a weekend I don't see why not (if it was just a day it'd probably be waste of time with travelling etc) We'll see what happens when BR2 makes it over here.

I got to see this at a brand new theater in Osaka a couple weeks ago, and it must be seen LOUD! The opening credits almost blew me through the back of the theater!

Well....if Mike Jonas is anything to go by (and he seems to be normally spot-on) we're probably looking at March/April next year.
While we're on the cinema release subject.....
Alex/Mandi, I just got the new Sept/Oct brochure in for the MacRobert Arts Centre Cinema in Stirling. They're showing "Dark Water" sept 19th and "Battle Royale" sept 20th. There are nice little pieces about each film in the booklet and at the end of each blurb, they give a web address for further details.....
Well, at the bottom of the "Dark Water" spiel...you know what it says....?

Did you know about this...? I gave a little cheer when I saw so I hope they're not being cheeky monkeys..... :P

no... know absolutely nothing about it whatsoever.
Have you got a scanner? Could you scan one in for us please?
Or, failing that, could you check the blurb with our page and make sure it's not nicked, please?
Let's put it this way: it wouldn't be the first time someone's tried to do that to us

Scanner's goosed (again!!!! ) but it doesn't appear to have been lifted from the site.....
DARK WATER 18
Director Hideo Nakata exerts a chilling grip with this scary ghost movie. Dark Water follows Nakata's much-admired horror movies Ring and Ring 2. Yoshimi, a single mother living in a creepy apartment block in a rundown part of town, becomes preoccupied with fear of a mysterious girl. Scare yourself witless.
