Post Chakushin Ari Final- One Missed Call Final (2006)

It's still in production, so I highly doubt anyone has seen it. There was something on it at the Chakushin Ari 2 thread, but just that it had been started... I found a page with information:

http://www.filmhorizon.com/OneMissedCallFinal.asp

In this final episode of the hugely successful “One Missed Call” franchise, the timid, young Asuka is bullied by her classmates. When they embark on a class field trip to Korea, Asuka plans revenge by sending a disturbing photo with the message: If you transmit this cursed photo to someone else, your life will be spared.
The students rush to pass the photo on to save their own lives, sparking a deadly fight for survival – reminiscent of “Battle Royale” (dir Kinji Fukasaku, 2000) with cell phones!
Scheduled for completion and delivery Summer 2006.

Sounds pretty interesting. This time around maybe it'll be an actual horror/comedy parody instead of a straight horror parody. The page also says it'll star Maki Horikita (Premonition, the Shibuya Kaidan movies) and Meisa Kuroki. And the director is Manabu Asou, whom I'm unfortunately not familiar with...

On the audio/visual page, there's a pic of a little girl with long black hair, holding an umbrella that covers her face. Reminds me of the press pics for One Missed Call 2.

OK - so it's Ring does Battle Royale on mobiles... sounds pretty dumb to me.

Thanks for the info though!

Pah, teenage students in this country would probably have a good laugh, dismiss it as some lamer chain-letter joke, and all get dead within the first three minutes of the movie

His only notable credit is the Hypnosis/Saimin semi-sequel, Senrigan.

Big news, the official site is up (at the same site where the first two movies' sites were hosted):

www.chakuari.jp

There's a few background pics there, and a teaser trailer. Obviously this is a take off of Battle Royale, while still staying with the rip-off of other movies.

But I'm surprised. This actually looks good!

It can't be any worse than the second one. Mind you, people keep turning out for these films; it's been a surprisingly successful franchise, so I'm not convinced about the 'Final' bit. It's hard to believe so many more people when to see One Missed Call 2 than Dark Water (Ju-on: The Grudge and Premonition, too). I generally give Japanese audiences some credit for having reasonable taste, but they really dropped the ball on that one.

Mind you, it does have Maki Horikita in, so there's some 'eye candy' value there. As long as it keeps me entertained, I'll be reasonably happy.

I watched the trailer and TBH they all look as bad as each other as far as I'm concerned Personally I can only hope that when they use the word 'Final', they actually mean it

No, they'll make a sequel to this one too, calling it Chakushin Ari - Second Final. If the curse keeps winning, they'll have to continue till we can declare the champion.

I'm sold

I just checked out some of the teasers and I must admit I'm actually kind of intrigued and I haven't even seen the first 2 movies.

EDIT

I just watched the full trailer on the site and imo it looks like a pretty decent flick.

Just watched the trailer...looks like I'll be seeing this one

I especially liked the shot of the girl trying to get her cell phone from under the bed...

I liked the scenes when they would fight over the phone.

Sure the movie looks far from original or thought provoking but it looks like a decent enough pop corn flick to me.

Chakushin Ari - Final was on in Korea sometime ago, and if anything, it definitely offers some change from the usual horror fare.
As for the story, a Japanese High School class make a school trip to Busan (South Korea), which gives main character Emiri (Horikita Maki) the chance to meet up with her mute (!!) Korean boyfriend Jin-woo (Jang Geun-seok). However, it is not long before the classmates start receiving the infamous text messages, this time with a slight twist: if you want to save your life, you are allowed to forwards the message to someone else!
This aspect is what makes the movie more interesting, almost like a mixture between the original 'Chakushin Ari' and 'Ring'. Whoever gets the message first has the power to kill someone, but the message can only be forwarded once.
Thanks to this, and also a change in setting to the Korean City of Busan (without a doubt done with the intention to cash in on the Korean-culture-craze occuring in Japan at the moment), the movie starts out fairly interestingly, although it loses its pace in the second half when Emiri and Jin-woo start researching who is causing the cell phone murders.
To sum up, it's definitely worth watching, don't expect a 'Battle Royale' in a 'Chakushin Ari' setting though. Chakushin Ari - Final also undoubtedly features the most bizarre death scene ever to be seen in a horror film, you'll know what I mean... :P
I was glad to see that they tried to come up with some new ideas, although I really do wish this will be the final one.
