Rubber's Lover / Pinocchio 964
Shojin Fukui
__________________________________________________ _______
PINOCCHIO 964
It's another hyper kinetic freak fest from Japan. Director Shozin Fukui pulls no punches in this intense vision of the future. A lobotomized cyborg sex slave is thrown out onto the street by his owners because of his inability to maintain an erection. He is befriended by a criminally insane, memory-wiped, homeless girl. Meanwhile, the corporate entity that manufactured and sold him plots to kill him because of his malfunction. I really enjoyed this film and just like Tetsuo and Rubber's Lover. This film has much mucho craziness that is truly horrifying and visually stimulating for you eye candy individuals out there. This movie is a treat. Extras are tentative.

__________________________________________________ _______
RUBBER'S LOVER
Fast paced hyper kinetic free for all in the line of Tetsuo the Iron Man. This in your face Black and White film should leave every horror fan screaming for more. Director Shozin Fukui wonderfully knows how to make a person's skin crawl and their mind shatter with the use of camera work, fast paced editing and a screeching sound track that will leave you numb. An awesome addition to the Unearthed Films arsenal. Story Synopsis: A group of scientists are working to unleash the psychic potential in human beings. The company they work for decides the project is a loss and sends a secretary to tell them the news of the project's shutdown. The poor scientists react rather badly to the news, and in a desperate attempt to make a final breakthrough, subject one of their own ranks to the drug and device. He responds well so they put him in an isolating rubber suit that deprives him of all sensory input and begin to experiment on him in horrifying ways. Gruesome chaotic and truly devastating. Rubber's Lover will satisfy almost every horror fan. Extras are tentative.

Hi Wolfi - you are currently linking to images on other web sites, and the mods will probably remove those as they are taking bandwidth from somewhere else. Have a look at the site guidelines, as you can put up inline images if they are below a certain size and hosted on your own web space.
Good luck with the hunt for these films.

I think 964 Pinocchio has now been released by Unearthed. For those still looking for bootlegs, they can end their search by buying that.

Unearthed Films are listing the release for 28th December, so only a few more days to wait - thanks for the info Yani!
They also now have a trailer online for Rubber's Lover...
(To be horribly OT for a moment - some of their other future releases look kinda interesting for those that like gore stuff too, particularly the Russian ones ^___^)

Poker are now also listing 964 Pinocchio, along with Rubber's Lover, as ready for pre-order. Oddly, I'm quite taken by the idea of this movie - has anyone seen it? It sounds like a strange mix of cyberpunk and pink (cyberpink, anyone? Sorry, couldn't resist it, especially after Alex invented the term 'gorn' ) that I actually find quite appealing as a concept (and I liked Tetsuo a lot, so this sounds like fun )
Rubber's Lover certainly sounds worth a watch as well
From the Poker synopsis of 964 Pinocchio:
"Pinocchio 964 is a sex android, who has escaped from his creator's lab with no memories of his creation. He wanders around Japan, until he meets Kyoko, another amnesiac with a horrible secret behind her own memory loss. Together they try to piece their lives together and live in a world where memory is no longer needed. Meanwhile, Pinocchio's fiendish architect is desperately trying to find his lost prototype before the world does. And as agents hunt down Pinocchio and begin closing in, the sex android begins to horrifically unravel."

http://www.bizarreingredients.co.uk/...pino/pino.html
http://www.mondo-digital.com/pinocchio.html
And Rubber's Lover:
"A powerful and secretive corporation is conducting underground psychic experiments utilizing Digital Direct Drive, otherwise known as D.D.D. While under the influence of the drug ether, the human subjects are outfitted in rubber suits and bombarded with D.D.D. with extremely intense sound. Though the experiments are successful in unleashing psychic powers in the test subjects, the results are usually fatal.
As a result, the corporation attempts to shut down the experiments against the wishes of Motomiya and Hitotsubashi, who are in charge of the research. In a desperate attempt to salvage their work, the two researchers take over the lab and hold an innocent secretary hostage while they transform their fellow researcher into an ether addict and use him as the final human guinea pig for their experiments."

Rubber's Lover (WAS: I saw my first Asian Extreme Film tonight!)
I found some extreme Asian cinema films at Best Buy. I'm watching Rubber's Lover right now. I have to say, it is really disturbing..but not as disturbing as it could be. As in the effects look like effects, so it's not so realistic that you're like really upset by it.
Unfortunetly they didn't have the film (at least the copy I picked up), in English dubbed, or subtitles. Although I guess the film really doesn't need dialogue for you to know what's going on. T
he actors/actresses are really belivable. Which is something you rarely see in cinema these days. I don't know how they could keep up all the screaming and thrashing through the movie, it looks so exhausting.
I don't know any of the actors/actresses' names. So I'm going to just say, the guy who was the first experiment. Who ended up getting his revenge. He was pretty hot, which to me made the film all that much more enjoyable. Or maybe I just like the film cuz the guy is hot.
I don't know if I'm ready for other stuff like, Battle Royal for example. Maybe you could tell me if Rubber's Love is tame compared to those films or not.
The guy who was the first experiment, just went off saying all this Japanese stuff really fast, knocking things down, then yelling. Alot like The Great Cornholio from Beavis and Butthead, lol. There probaly is less dark humor in this, than I'm seeing...because I don't really know Japanese. However, I think that was pretty damn amusing..lol.
Apperantly just now I got to the part in the film, where there's a live disembowelment...uhm, ok now that is messed up.

Battle Royale isn't that graphic, so you're most likely to be able to take it.
Rubber's Lover though? Wow, good start.

I quite agree - I feel amused by people who I hear going, " Battle Royale? Man that's sooooooooo gory and out-there!"
Have a squizz at, say, Tetsuo: The Iron Man or Kichiku dai enkai and I think you'll see that the Japanese are adept at pushing the boundaries of acceptability well beyond what most folk can handle
(Even I, a hardened horror movie reviewer of several years hence, squirmed during some of the sequences of Kichiku )
As for Rubber's Lover itself, we have this title but just haven't got round to watching it yet - I think Alex said he might like to have a go at reviewing it, but if it's as gory as all that, I don't think he'll manage it

I recently picked this up, and I must say... it's a very graphic and somewhat disturbing movie.
The black and white tone they use for the movie was used because the director stated that the "rubber suit looked terrible in color"... and it makes the movie quite a bit darker, effectively dehumanizing the characters on screen.
There isn't a tremendous amount of gore in the movie, and what is there isn't startlingly realistic, but the lack of color makes it harder to tell... and the reckless glee that some of it is done with makes it all the more shocking.
But the movie really confused me... spoilers follow.
Was there any significance to the Buddha that Shimika randomly sees at one point? Is the "genesis of kings and queens" referring to the "dawn" of a new race of people - actual, full-fledged psychics? Why is Shimika tearing the film out of that filmholder shortly before he burns out? Was that sequence of Shimika raping Kiku and tearing her stomach open a simple hallucination? Further, I'm guessing the "all arrows point to Tanizaka" message refers to the bald-headed figure we see a few times in the movie, but what was the point of that finger movement she does? Are those 'the bugs' attacking him at the end?
But even with the confusion that came, I consider this a solid flick. Unearthed Films did a good job on the release of this DVD, including an interview with the director, a few amusing trailers, and a short film that confuses me even more than the movie itself.

Hi, I know I said I wouldn't be back but uhm, I'm back
I just couldn't stay away from the horror. LoL. I've been wondering, for the longest time. Mostly because I can't find any info on this at all. Okay, you know at the end of Rubber's Lover, where they keep repeating something that sounds like "ha-ji-tay"? What the heck does "ha-ji-tay" mean?! I have no clue, and I must know..it's driving me crazy. I guess the fact that they repeat so much in the film doesn't help much.
I also noticed, that there are similarities between Rubber's Love, and the experiments claimed to have been done under the CIA's project MKULTRA. If you want info on that, please go here:

So.. finally got around to watch Rubber's Lover along with 964 Pinocchio.
I didn't particularly like Rubber's Lover, sadly.. It really looked like it'd be straight up my alley.. so Tetsuo-like, also with shady corporate experiments and so on... but no.
I did like some scenes, though - reverting to black/white really suited the film. The "plot" was rather too weak for me, especially when compared to 964 Pinocchio.. and not nightmarish/strange enough to get a grip on me like Tetsuo. A problem may have been all the technobabble, which I usually detest.
It was maybe a bit too clinical too.
Still, I'm glad to have at least seen it so I now know what it's like.. maybe it'll grow on me with repeated views. We'll see.
EDIT: oh.. no thread for 964 Pinocchio? Ah well, I'll add my thoughts here.
I liked it better than Rubber's Lover, as it had a better story. But the amount of shaking really irritated me and the too long vomit sequence was... very off-putting. I really liked their smoke, looked quite different from other smoke in films.. I wonder what they used. A quite intriguing film!

I have seen both of these.
964 Pinochhio
It was pretty much what I expected. Well, maybe I didn't guess the ending, but that's understandable.
I liked the idea of it. Pinocchio was discarded because he couldn't maintain an erection, and after being discarded, no one cared for him. Except the girl of course.
The very fast paced ending fits the movie well, but I'm still not exactly sure what happened in the last scene.
An awesome movie.
Rubber's Lover
This was... a good movie, but at times I found it hard to watch it. Mainly the testing scenes. To me the black and white brings an edge that color movies rarely have.
Again, I'm not sure of the ending, but in a movie like this it doesn't matter that much.
Both good movies. I'll look forward to any work by Fukui.

I always see this one in stores when I make my rounds, but I don't know a thing about it. Any thoughts?
