Default Dead Friend (aka The Ghost)

check this one out!

http://www.deadfriend.co.kr/

the site's entirely in korean, but it's so well made (the website), very spooky and impressive. check out the trailer (lower right). it looks great - although it is a hodgepodge of A LOT of common horror movies (dark water, ju-on, the exorcist, even gothika) but i was excited nonetheless.

another one to watch out for!

Yeah, it looks derivative, but at least it looks competent. I really wish more asian horror films would tread away from taking scenes from other successful movies, and try something new for a change. The long-haired woman in a white dress is starting to wear a bit thin on me. At least change it up a bit, and give her hollow eyes instead of the typical evil eye.

I watched it yesterday in Korea and it is indeed prett scary. Although not as innovative as last year's hit 'A Tale Of Two Sisters'. I'll give a quick plot summary.

<<<<<POSSIBLE SPOILERS>>>>>>

It is basically about a girl named Ji-Won (Kim Ha-Neul) who lost her memory about an incident that happened a year ago. One day she is visited by a girl who used to be her friend. She seems to be very scared about something and sows Ji-Won a photo that was taken that time, one year ago, when Ji-Won, the girl, and two other girls went on a trip. Apparently, one of the other girls is dead, and the second one went crazy. Before she leaves, she gives Ji-Won the warning 'don't remember!'. But Ji-Won keeps having those nighmares and visions of a girl with long black hair, and fragments of her memory start coming back...

<<<<<SPOILER END>>>>>>

It is a bit hard to summarize te story without giving away too much. Although there a quite a few scenes that seem ripped off from 'Phone' or even 'A Tale Of Two Sisters', I'd say it's a movie worth watching when it comes out on DVD.

Quite positive review. Looks like your usual summer popcorn horror film.

The DVD is out August 10th (or 13th or 20th)! It's amazing how fast they release some of the movies.

It appears as if this movie has changed its English title to "The Ghost".

What an original name... Maybe it's better to remember or something, easier to remake... Thanks for letting us know so we won't pass it as another horror movie with a funny name.

I saw this one last night, and while it borrows heavily from Dark Water, Ringu and even a tad of Hellraiser, it still manages to maintain some "originality"... and it had really good CGI. One of the scenes that used it nearly gave me a heartattack I thought that scene would be like in Ringu 2, but no.. that thing just had to come alive and scare me.

The scariest scene, however, was the opening. It was just really slow and weird and... spooky. And featured gallons of water, as did the "final showdown", however (just like in Phone) that scene moved to quickly and was over before it managed to make an impact. I'm kind of angry with myself, though, because I wasn't able to guess the twist at the end. When you think about it, it's really obvious. >.<

The acting was really good, especially the lead actress, whose character suffers from amnesia. The only one I dare to complain about would be the nutcase. She was good, just not particulary convincing.

All in all, despite not being all that original (even the sound that the ghost makes sounds like Kayako, from the Ju-On movies, only louder and, in a way, scarier), it's still a very good movie. I highly recommend it.

4/5
