Default Blue Spring

Wow. I was completely blown away by this film; it's in a similar vein to Battle Royale, in regards to rebellious highschool kids and extreme violence. From what I've heard, certain Japanese highschools aren't too far off from what this movie depicts. Whereas Battle Royale drops the ball a bit because of the inherent cheesiness and cartoonish violence at times, Blue Spring holds on to it throughout the entire movie with strong performances and realistic violence, delivering an unforgettable finale. To top things off, the soundtrack is one of the best I've heard. Must see, must see, must see....you get the idea.

There's a pretty good review on Midnight Eye. I think I am going to have to put this on my list, too.

Renting it tomorrow, I'll let you guys know what I thought. I'm interested in this one.

EDIT: Actually, it wasn't this movie. It was called 'The Blue Light' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0400174/)... but I'm checking it out anyway.

"Blue Spring" is one of my favorite movies of all time, as well as having one of the best soundtracks (speaking of which, does anyone know where to find the soundtrack?)

... There are really schools like this?... Wow...

I dunno where to find it but the names of few songs might help.

Thee Michelle Gun Elephant - Drop
Thee Michelle Gun Elephant - Akage no Kelly (The Redhead Kelly)
Thee Michelle Gun Elephant - Boogie
Thee Michelle Gun Elephant - Mona Lisa
Thee Michelle Gun Elephant - September Punk Children

Best luck finding those! I'm seriously thinking of buying this movie. The HK disc is so cheap and supposedly quite good quality.

Thanks for the song list, Yani! That clinches it - I need to go on a rampage and get my hands on all the Elephant I can!

As far as the HK disk goes, I'd give it a thumbs up. Good quality (IMHO, but I'm not an expert, so...) and no really weird English subtitles, which may be good for inadvertant humor but are usually just irritating.

Artsmagic are releasing Blue Spring on R1 NTSC in July (according to their list - it's in the Coming Soon section!) - hopefully we should be doing a review for it fairly soon...

I apologise for all these flyer-posts, but I'm currently about 47 pages into MovieWalker's collection, and this is a nice pic for Aoi haru - I wish I could post it but it's 123kb

If anyone likes Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, get the album Rodeo Tandem Beat Specter.

I love this movie, I'm saving up for the Japanese DVD b/c the Artsmagic doesn't have all the cool extras, just a really drab commentary by Tom Mes.

Just heard from the KineJapan list that Toyoda's been arrested for possession of illegal drugs, discovered in his home. Asmik Ace might delay release of his next film, due out in October.

That's surprising! I wonder how is it - does he get a jailtime in Japan for such crimes?

I was wondering whether or not it was possible to buy the soundtrack somewhere?

The same question was asked at the top of this page - there doesn't seem to be an official release of the soundtrack but Yani detailed some tracks from the movie by Thee Michelle Gun Elephant in his post here.
