Zebraman 2 (2010) On the Wikipedia for Zebraman it says a sequel is planned for 2010 but i couldn't find any more info apart from that. i asked a japanese friend to do some research for me and although it's not on imdb at the moment aparently it's already being filmed. Both Takashi Miike and Sho Aikawa are confirmed but i'm not sure if it's the same writer. Due to be released in spring 2010!
It's still very early in the planning process. Actresses are sending in applications now for an audition in October. The director will be announced around then. Every Japanese site seems to be assuming it's Miike, but between his Thirteen Assassins remake and $30 million live-action Takeru adaptation it's going to be a while before he's free. All I know for sure is it's coming out in 2010 and Aikawa is onboard.
well you seem to know more about it than me! either way it's enough to get me psyched about it! i watched the 1st to get me in the mood last night. i prefer Sho in this kind of role rather than his yakuza films. i hope we see more Zebra Nurse
cool beans! nothing on here really at the moment, but it's the first non japanese site to mention Z2 http://asianmediawiki.com/Zebraman_2 also if anyone is interested i did a youtube vid showing off the premium box of Zebraman, there's LOADS of goodies with the set so if you're a fan, check it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q3mRy2M_uU
taken from here: http://jfilmpowwow.blogspot.com/2009/10/want-to-be-extra-in-zebraman-2-sure-you.html Do you want to be an extra in Takashi Miike's sequel to his zany 2004 superhero comedy "Zebraman"? Sue you do... but wait... They're making a sequel to "Zebraman"??? Apparently yes. According to an announcement posted on Toei's website the studio is continuing the story of Shinichi, the gym teacher turned crime fighting Zebra, but this time in the near future. Sho Aikawa is returning to the role of Zebraman, but this time out the film will be set in 2025. Not many other details in the announcement except that there will be crowd scenes shot in Yokohama on October 28th and that Toei is looking for 200 extras (age/ sex/ and dress don't matter) to witness Zebraman don his stripes and fight crime once again! So if you're in the Yokohama area and have the 28th free then follow the link above for additional details (in Japanese). And you can rest assured that well keep on this story to tell you more about "Zebraman 2" as details leak out.
http://www.nipponcinema.com/blog/press-conference-held-for-zebraman-2/ On October 19th, a press conference was held at Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka to announce production of Zebraman 2: Zebra City no Gyakushu (literally “Zebra City’s Counter Attack”). Show Aikawa was on the platform alongside co-stars Riisa Naka, Tsuyoshi Abe, and Masahiro Inoue. Director Takashi Miike and producer Takashi Hirano were also in attendance. Aikawa’s hair was dyed completely white for the role just this morning. Filming hasn’t yet started, but he wanted to give people an early peek. He explained that the white should make him feel old, but surprisingly, it’s having the opposite effect. Show Aikawa with white hair for Zebraman 2: Zebra City no GyakushuProduction of this sequel has some added meaning because it will overlap with the 25th anniversary of Aikawa’s debut. It’s a pretty big coincidence considering the first Zebraman was the 100th film of his career. Miike chose to credit fate over planning, commenting that at each milestone he finds Show Aikawa standing in front of him. Aikawa on playing Zebraman again: “He’s a man of black and white. I get to live as a dream figure that can’t exist in adult society where there are only shades of gray.” On his reaction to hearing about the sequel: “I thought it was April Fools’ Day (laughs). -I’ll do it if it kills me!” The film is set in Zebra City in the year 2025. Shinichi Ichikawa (Aikawa) has lost his memory and begins to do battle against an evil organization bent on world conquest. Kankuro Kudo once again handled the script, and expectations are that it will surpass the original. “Zebraman 2: Zebra City no Gyakushu” will be released in Japan on May 1, 2010.
Can I just say, adding absolutely no news to this development, that this is potentially the best thing I have heard in the entirety of 2009? I loved this film to pieces, and Sho Aikawa is one of my favorite jams, ever. I literally squealed, aloud, when I read this Splatterman. Like a small girl. I am very, very happy about this. That is all.
yeahhh! i'm glad someone here shares my love for the Z-man! i'm wondering how they are going to surpass the original but with Aikawa, Miike and Kankuro back in, i have very high hopes. the only worry i have is that we wont see a subtitled DVD for a while after May.
Well I still have my old booted region 0 copy of Zebraman that I watch when I am sick and need cheering up (subtitles in neon-colored Comic Sans font), I suppose I will have to have the same for the sequel to complete the pair . But really, I have great faith in Miike about how he will handle this, especially since the first has held up so well to repeat viewings (and I've rewatched this movie A LOT). It'll be terrible to have to wait for it, but I'm super looking forward to this now, and before this I didn't have any film I was really waiting to see next year so this is rather brilliant. I totally love that it is set farther into the future. I'm terribly intrigued.
oh hells yeah! he looks seriously badass! i'm loving it! though i do kind of miss his awkward goofieness

if anyone's interested: Japanese actress and model Riisa Naka will be adding singing to her resume come this May as the artist responsible theme song for 'Zebraman 2,' a film she's also starring in.
Zebraman2 is being adapted into a 5 volume manga, no news as of yet as to whether it will follow the movie or, like the first manga adaptation, will create its own story. promo art here: http://www.zeb2.jp/news/images/100201.jpg A really great Japanese site about ZM2 containing a few videos like TV spots and music vids. http://ch.yahoo.co.jp/zebraman2/index.php?blogid=1 A rather questionable music vid for the Zebra Queen theme sung by (i think) Riisa Naka who also play Zebra Queen: http://ch.yahoo.co.jp/zebraman2/index.php?itemid=3 As well as her offical site: http://www.zebraqueen.net/ And best of all, one of the greatest promo arts for Zebraman 2!!! http://ch.srv.yimg.jp/skins/fanclub/ch-zebraman2/mustimage/bgimage.jpg Thats all i have today folks.
I am beginning to feel very confused and uncertain about this project, although I reckon I needn't worry too heavily about it as the source material itself is a rather insane film. But as a commenter notes in the new trailer's comment section, this really in no way resembles the first film, to the point of almost seeming like an entirely new project that only tenuously shares a name. It's also very iffy how cross-pollinated this project is across various media (the pop single is a very strange marketing tool). I don't see any of the child-like wonder and silliness of the first film in these promotional media, and that is worrisome. I suppose we'll see when it is finally out, but still.... [insert shifty eyes here].
