Jo An's acting was splendid, yes... But I think the two girlfriends were hotter The acting overall was very high quality anyway, but still there was something in the movie that didn't fullfill my pleasure... Some things in the story felt exxaggerated, and some very pretictable. Some parts where slightly scary, but you never felt afraid. Still worth seeing though ^_^
While it may not be the next "Suicide Club" or "Battle Royale" I thought the film was pretty good. Though like people have said on here I did not like the *SPOILER* "Ringu" rip off of an ending I have not had the chance to see "Whispering Corridors" or "Memento Mori" my blockbuster hasn't gotten it, yet. Overall, I thought the acting was nice(especially the main actress who was hot:-P ) and the set was pretty cool, minus some cheesy moments.
One thing I'd like to say as far as the story goes is that.......... ***SPOILERS**** *************** Were the wishes for real or were they subconscience. What I mean is when the movie starts out the main girl climbs the steps and wishes..."Let us me together forever." I asked who is us? Becuase, while you can assume she means her and her friend, something conflicted with that wish. When her friend later goes and wishes to recieve the ballet scholarship, it sorta cancels that one out and is the real main reason for the conflict to follow and asks how important is their friendship. That made me assume the wishes were plasibo or fake or just in their head. Because, even though her friend, who's name I cannot remember , wished to be the one who recieved the ballet scholarship she still did her own sabotaging of putting glass in her friends slippers and that is what allowed her to attend the school also the fact that she "pulled" her friend down the steps, since she never really pushed her. Another thing that adds to this is the fact that the red head girl who goes psycho wished to be skinny and the next day you can believe that her wish was granted and the fox exists though later in the film when the friend bumps into her pills fall out of her bag, which could be diet pills no?? Also, later the same girl wishes that the main girl would return to her. Now this makes me wonder if the spirit really did come back or did she just go crazy. Because, she was obsessed with her she could of fabricated her pressence like Su-mi did in "A tale of two sisters". So, it makes me wonder if there really is more to the story then what we saw. Also, I think gives a small message of be careful what you wish for. All of their actions and the way the wishes were granted seem to be of their own subconscience and doing. That is all I wanted to point out. Thank you ********END SPOILERS******** *****************************
MILK: SPOILER -> Hmm... There are three girls, and it's the fat girl (Hae-su I think) that ask for Her and the Girl that dies to be together forever, am I right? Then it's the Girl that dies best friend that ask for the ballet scholarship, so that doens't end the first whish... cause it was by another person. Wether the wishing is imaginary or not is an very interesting question. It's not really "magical" things that happen for the wishes... for example: SPOILER -> Hae-Su wishes to loose weight, and she starts to throw up. Another girl wishes for the ballet scholarship, and then she happens to push her friend down the stairs... And Hae-Su might become Shizo/MP imagining the ghost of the dead girl...
No, I think it is the main girl*SPOILER*---> the one who dies that asks to be together forever. Though, yeah. Based on the stuff shown in the film it makes me wonder. So, the story could be deeper than people think. Though I am sure there are people out there who think this is looking too deep into it.
Hmm.. Are you talking about the first scene? (I Think it was). I'm quite sure that SPOILER --> that is the same scene as the one a little later on, where Hae-su (the fat girl) wishes for her and the girl that is dead to be together. Hae-su is obviosly obsessed by the girl that dies... And it would make sense if she asked "the fox" for bringing back the dead girl to life, and for them to be together forever. So the first scene first scene is not set in chronological order....I'm 99.9% sure about this. There is three wishes in total, right? In chronological order: 1. Hae-su wishes to loose weight. 2. The "other" girl wishes to get the ballet scholarship. 3. Hae-su wishes again, for the dead girl to come back to life, and be with her forever. <-- End SPOILER Or what do you think? :/
I agree that it wasn't the best of the three, but I liked it too. The gripe I have is that I wish (now where's that stairway) that it would have ended before that little extra stuff at the end. I thought that that was a great climax for the movie. Then it would, for me, rank probably #2 behind Memento Mori. I'd be more specific, but I don;t know how to utilize the spoiler tags.
Just type , then whatever you want in the tags, and close it with [/ spoiler ] (take out the spaces in that second tag)
I dunno if anyone has asked this yet or not, but does anyone know where I can download the opening music to this movie...I love it. Or if anyone has the soundtrack, could you please upload it to Limewire? That'd be great...my parents won't let me shop online so I can't get the fancy 6 disc sets of these movies with the soundtracks
Sorry, for legal reasons we can't allow a reply to your post GMK, even if we knew in the first place (which we don't). We don't want to get our asses sued by the RIAA and potentially we could even invalidate our licence for the forum software if we did... Thanks for your understanding.
Just watched The Wishing Stairs. I know it's not been greeted particularly favourably, but I rather enjoyed it. It's not as original as Memento Mori, but it's very well-made and steers clear of the usual Asian horror cliches far more effectively than many other recent Korean horror films. I enjoyed the references to western horror, and the cast were uniformly good. Definitely not disappointed. It's the least impressive film in the series, but they're all above average and pretty entertaining.
It is good fun. A horror film that is definitely targeted at a female audience - it takes a standard Jolly Hockey Sticks tale of ballet rivalry - modernises it a bit with the bulimia theme, and adds the house-of wax (or rather clay) and wishmaster type cheesy horror element. A good popcorn muncher that does not stretch the brain cells too much, but like many of these sorts of films, would interest the psychoanalyst more than the critic.
Just finished watching this. What a nonsensical mess of a movie. There isn't much more to say than that. I'm at a loss for words. On the bright side, the behind the scenes special feature on the Tartan DVD is the best one that I've ever seen. I enjoyed about ten times more than the main feature.
