OK, so can I ask: do you guys think we should buy Stacy? (http://www.synapse-films.com/shopping_cart/stacy.htm) Given our reviewing record for zombie movies - ie, hated Junk, liked Bio Zombie - what do you reckon? Should we steer clear? Have any of you seen the movie yet, and if so, what did you think?
Hi! I have buy "Stacy" and I can say that I don't think that it's a waste of money. The story is funny and well done. The acting are good (sure that some could have done better performance but anyway....it's better than Junk...that's for sure).Oh and they are plenty of bloody moments to satisfied the gorehound in you.My only complaint is for some of the zombie girls...you have to see how they move...weird! If you have enjoyed "Biozombie",you will love this one. Cheers!
Thanks for the heads-up Balzac - it does sound like lots of fun, and certainly site-fodder - something about Twinkle Butterfly Powder as well..??? http://www.newmoanyeah.com/2003-reviews/012503_living_dead_girl_stacy.php
Not necessarily: I've been sort-of teetering on the edge of it for months, actually and didn't even pre-order it! And I still haven't made up my mind!
Hooray!!!!!!!!!!! At last...I was not the only one (on this forum) who have seen and enjoyed this movie
I hadn't ever realized that this was supposed to be a comedy... the cover looked like one of those cheap movies with a bad plot that tries to keep itself serious... However, if the film is, in fact, a comedy,... This film has just become 100x more appealing I'm planning on ordering the live action La Blue Girl series, Ichi: The Killer ( the R2/PAL SE which ought to be uncut ), Godzilla X MechaGodzilla, The Last Unicorn (it's classic... come on...), & Screwball '94 (supposedly an Asian Porky's)... I may toss Stacy onto the pile, now... I'm unsure... it's either that or Dead Or Alive (which I've REALLY been meaning to get)...
Hi DrCraze! Hmm...yeah,your right. It's a "kind of" cheaply made movie, but who cares? One of the greatest thing about "Stacy", is that they have not tried to be taken seriously (think of "Junk":with all those stupids foreigns actors, that even Troma woul'd have hired for a part in there movies). It was purely made to have a good laugh watching it. Anyway, this is the kind of movie that you will love or "totaly hate" after your first viewing. If I can suggest,go to these's links...maybe it will help? One of the best review for this film (in french): www.sanchodoesasia.com/sdj/sdj_stacy.php A review of the Synapse DVD: www.dvdmaniacs.net/Reviews/Q-T/stacy.html Another review, but this time,a bad one: www.teleport-city.com/movies/reviews/horror/stacy.html By the way, which version of Dead or Alive do you plan to buy...Kino? Cheers!
Dead or Alive is a handsome addition to any Extreme Asian Cinema collection. Post edited by Alex Apple to remove hotlinked image
I did care, when I was under the impression that it was a film that held itself seriously.... but, with this new news, that care is gone. (My only fright would be that I would have ended up with a Let Sleeping Corpses Lie or Fulci'ish film (sometimes you get lucky with the cheap films that regard themselves as serious films... but, 1/2 the time, unless it's a cheap film like one of TROMA's, which is, made more-or-less, purely or laughs, shock-value, & easy entertainment... it's just kinda dull & pretentious. (Dull & Pretentious = Lucio Fulci defined to a T) ...(maybe gorey, too  ) But, I always love a good laugh; so, this film has taken a nice up-turn. Also, I'd be getting the uncut version, of course... I'm think about picking 'em up through E-Bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3340839087&category=2302 ... seems to be the cheepest & easiest route... get all three in one order.
Since you aren't going to get The Record which is probably a good idea, are you going to get Stacy instead? I think Hinako Saeki in a bunny outfit with a chainsaw must be worth the price of a Hong Kong DVD!
Well, Mandi and I finally watched this one tonight as part of Poker Industries' campaign to relieve us of as much cash as possible. And it sucked huuuugely, in the sort of sucky way even Junk didn't. The first half irritated me in a massive, cod-psychological way that had me squirming to get out of my seat and walk away after - get this - three minutes. I braved it out (Mandi ever so kindly paused it for me while I was cooking dinner - cheers M  ) and the second half picked up ever so slightly when it became a little bit clearer (although not perfectly) that it was just fluff. So, sorry, hated it. Though I missed Hinako Saeki in a bunny suit. :eeek:
I'm sorry honey bunny, but you are wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong  (I can do this 'cos we're married) See, I preferred this enormously to Junk. Like Wild Zero, like Biozombie, and completely unlike Junk, this movie knows exactly what it is. It is pure, unadulterated crap. It is cheapo in the extreme, shot on video, with the worst props and special FX in the world, it is trite and stupid and nonsensical and full of the daftest pseudo-philosophy it has ever been my misfortune to have to endure. It is the most retarded thing I have ever seen. And you know what? It's fun. It is the sort of movie where you can turn the old grey head jelly off for 80 minutes and wallow in bad effects, terrible acting, corny comedy, cheesy parody and the worst supermarket muzak soundtrack ever committed to celluloid (except of course it's not celluloid, even - it's Guinea Pig-style video all the way). Is this a recommendation or not? I dunno, but I promise you - when I write the review, it's gonna be one hell of a conflicted piece
:lolololo: So then you'll have two overpriced paperweights instead of just the one... I did say I was terribly conflicted about it...
i'll be honest - im kinda with Alex on this one. yes it is funny (but only briefly) with the only scene of note being the Right Arm Bruce Campbell advert (i know i've written it wrong but i cant remember the specifics about it). other than that there was quite a lot of gore, which was ok, and some of the worse acting ive seen (which was amusing for a while) but other than these slight sniffles at entertainment its a largely boring affair to be honest. not as bad as Junk (which in my opinion has not one redeemable aspect about it - oh other than the one ladies chebs being on display) so i guess Stacy isn't terrible, just awful.
