I'll Never Die Alone is scheduled to be screened at the 27th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) on April 14th, and at Imagine: 25th Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival (Imagine) on April 18th, 20th, and 22nd. Here's a description of I'll Never Die Alone from the BIFFF website: "Once you have experienced the big city with its shopping mall, trendy bars and boys who don't smell of sweat before 5pm and who do not greet you by putting their hand on your ass, going back to the countryside can be traumatizing. Especially if this countryside is located in the deep south of Argentina, where the Charles Bronson moustache and denim shorts are still fashionable and where boring afternoons are spent raping and murdering passers-by. When fresh meat, such as Moira, Carol, Leonor and Yasmine, enter the area, it sets panties and triggers on fire. ¶ Until this day, the huge revival of seventies genre cinema has left aside the rape-and-revenge subgenre. Adrian Garcia Bogliano (36 Steps at the BIFFF 2008) has managed to fill this gap. That being said, I'll Never Die Alone is certainly not an excuse to show some gratuitous sexual transgressions. [García] Bogliano has clearly been inspired and pays homage to movies such as Funny Games, Sorcerer, Deliverance, A History of Violence or I Spit on Your Grave. His way of filming violence is more realistic and harsh, with painfully long and sometimes unbearable shots. I'll Never Die Alone is one very disturbing viewing experience and the confirmation of [García] Bogliano's talent." Here's a description of I'll Never Die Alone from the Imagine website: "Four girlfriends are on their way home when they see an injured girl lying next to the road, with three guys carrying rifles a little further on. The women take the victim to the police and give evidence, but shortly afterwards they get run off the road themselves. One by one they are taken to the woods and raped. The women take revenge, but it doesn't exactly taste sweet. ¶ The Argentine I'll Never Die Alone (No moriré sola) is inspired by classic rape & revenge films from the seventies, like Last House on the Left and I Spit on Your Grave. But it's the directing style of Adrián García Bogliano (Habitaciones para Turistas, 36 Pasos) that allows the film to rise above itself, as it goes directly against the current ruling fashion of grotesque torture horror or nervous pseudo-documentary style camera work. There's hardly any music in [García] Bogliano's film, but natural and ambient sounds create an eerie extra dimension. Where other directors would go for nervous editing during violent scenes, [García] Bogliano chooses long, lingering shots. This makes especially the quadruple rape scene almost unbearable to watch. Where the examples mentioned earlier ([García] Bogliano mentions more of them in the credits) at least offered the satisfaction of vengeance, I'll Never Die Alone only makes you see. And feel. And shiver." Warning: The trailer linked to below contains sexual content; viewer discretion is advised.
