Movies schmoovies...what are your favourite TV shows...?

    Mine include...

    "The Twilight Zone"
    "Tales from the Darkside"
    "Monty Python"
    "Still Game"
    "Cowboy Bebop"

    ...but enough about me.....
  2. drkne1 Guest

    Oh, I LOOOOOOOVE Cowboy Bebop.

The characters, the music, the mood, the artwork, the voices, the storylines...

There is no show that I love more than this show in the entire world.
I wish I could just LIVE in Cowboy Bebop.
I would die if they would just make another series of sessions.
  3. Pichu Guest

    Hmmmm....let's see....I have a lot...

  4. GoodFellow Guest

    Alltime top TV-series.

Wiseguy, OZ, Millenium, X-Files, Simpsons, Outher Limits, Babylon 5, Band Of Brothers, Late Night With Conan O´Brien, Practice, Hercule Poirot, Yes Minister, Yes Prime Minister, Seinfeld...
  5. Mandi Apple The Acid Queen

Actually, I hardly ever watch the idiot box anymore - I feel that programming has really declined in the last five or so years (despite being kitted out to the teeth with satellite channels and extra paying channels to boot)...

...and since the horrible demise of FilmFour (ie, killing the only two channels out of four which were the reason we originally signed up - World cinema and Extreme cinema) which is now showing Forrest Gump seven times a week when just a few months ago it was showing obscure beauties like Whispering Corridors and The Eel, our TV viewing has lessened even further... the Sci-Fi channel is still showing some great stuff though (including the SF Extreme series they've had lately, with Battle Royale, Ring, Audition, Freeze Me etc...

But anyway, enough of my ranting :bad-word:

What do we actually dig, then? OoooK...

    - Anything with Chris Morris. Chris Morris is my idea of comic genius. The Day Today, Brass Eye, Jam - really really black humour.

    - Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Have the DVD, all the books, the radio show CD's and the scripts. Douglas Adams, also comic genius.

    - Takeshi's Castle - of course :D

    - Sabrina The Teenage Witch, pre-college years. Don't ask me why.

    - Big Brother. Every year I say, oh no, not this year, I won't be watching it, the people in it all look really dull. And every year finds me sitting shouting at the telly, and occasionally cheering, too (as I did rather embarrassingly when Cameron won this year). Urgh. I feel dirty

    - Monty Python - again, of course, goes without saying. Still looks pretty damn fresh twenty-some years on.

    - The Young Ones - ditto. Nostalgia trip!

    - as is... my embarrassing collection of 70's cult kids TV vids/DVD. Yep, you guessed it, we got it all. Bagpuss, Magic Roundabout, Clangers.... my kids are going to hate me because I'm going to ram this down their throats instead of The Tweenies

That's all I can think of right now, but then it is rather early in the morning to be thinking at all, quite frankly
  6. Scuz Knee-High Girl

I don't watch many TV-shows, mainly cuz most of them are either re-runs or soaps. So I tend to stick to my movies

I used to be a huge X-files fanatic, that is, until they replaced Mulder with that other guy (Robert Patrick). :shake: The show went down-hill like that *snaps fingers*
I love 24, Big Wolf On Campus (it's cancelled, but I have most of the episodes taped  )... The Nanny is quite amusing... and there's this weird show about a hospital, but I don't know the English title as I haven't watched any episodes from the beginning, however it seems highly entertaining.
  7. Yani The Observer

I don't watch TV much anymore, it rarely has something to watch...

But I never miss Simpsons, Conan O'Brien rocks and I used to watch X-Files when I remembered/had time. Thin list :)
  8. Vertigo Guest

Used to watch a lot of late night TV but it was never the same after they stopped showing "Tales from the Darkside".....

Anyone ever watch "Kolchak:The Night Stalker"...?

  13. Saunders Guest

    Buffy
    MST3K
    3's Company
    Trigger Happy TV
Young Ones (I'll lump Bad News in there too though NOT a show)
    SCTV
    Kids in the Hall
  14. Vertigo Guest

Yeah you can include "Bad News" as technically it was part of a series - "The Comic Strip Presents" - whicjh also featured the exceptionally funny "Mr Jolly Lives Next Door".....

Nothing like the sight of a blood-stained Peter Cook shout 'fack off!' a lot
and Ade and Rik threating Nicholas Parsons with a chainsaw.....
  15. xFinnPetersx Guest

these are pretty much the shows i like. here's my list, notice almost all of the shows are cancelled or were over way too early.

-Family Guy (destroys every other animated show. better than past competition [Futurama, Clerks TAS, every other peice of crap they wheeled out to compete with it] and i'd say better than it's slowly dying father The Simpsons. my theory on this is that if you rolled every bit of funniness from all the simpsons episodes and all the FG episodes down into a ball, the ball from FG would be bigger. possibly less dense and easier to understand but bigger none the less.)
-Freaks And Geeks (... you can't say much about genius. just go watch it, get your hands on a tape.)
    -Seinfeld
-Curb Your Enthusiasm (Seinfeld minus "ensemble" cast, minus occasional bad jokes, plus cursing. One of the funniest and most different shows ever.)
-Mr. Show ("electric sports bra, electric sports bra...")
-Clerks: The Animated Series (bad idea, suprisingly good execution & writing)
-Viva Variety (johnny bluejeans invented funny, or at least i used to think so when i was younger.)
-Oz (probably my favourite show. HBO killed this show (i think), it should've been their flagship series. Later Seasons are a let down)
-The Daily Show (1st 3 seasons. Kilborn 4 Life.)
-The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
-Undeclared (possibly as good as Fs&Gs. great cast.)
-Heat Vision & Jack (yeah i know there's just a pilot, but...)
-Dawson's Creek (if it ended when it should've, after the third or fourth year, it would've stood as a great piece of teen sitcom goodness. but it's degraded since the following things happened: the kids went to college, the involvment of dawson's parents in the stories, and the useless death of dawson's dad.)
-Real World (altough i can't bear to actually watch it these days)
-The Sopranos (newer seasons are kinda bleh...)
-Six Feet Under (great cast. mainly watched it for Lauren Ambrose, but haven't bothered to watch it regularly since mid-season two.)
-Twin Peaks (hated it, well didn't like it, until i got the first season box set and could watch it how it was supposed to be watched (not looking & sounding like crap). i can't wait to get the second season when/if it comes out.)
-Spawn (for some reason left unresolved at the end of season three. sometimes HBO makes great decisions sometimes they make terrible ones.)
-Aeon Flux (would like it alot more if i could get all the episodes on a real dvd. somebody PLEASE put out a completely comprehensive Aeon Flux box-set.)
-X-Files (used to by my favourite shows, but i grew up. eventually it started sucking so i probably got out early enough that i didn't have to see it fade. i really would like to start buying the box-sets for each season, because they look like they are very nicely presented, but they are very very expensive.)
-Cowboy Bebop (have the box-set but have yet to watch every episode.)
-Everybody Loves Raymond (one of my favourite things to watch with my family. Consistently funny and one of the only worthwhile sitcoms out.)

i think that's it. i really don't watch TV but i'm addicted to wanting to watch TV/get DVD's of the shows i do love.

    damn you people with cable/satellite....

erm - yes mandi - chris morris iz the man.

    what else.....

    erm.....

i don't watch a lot of telly really.

    *feels dull and boring*
  17. The only 2 shows I've really enjoyed and watched every episode of are...

    Six Feet Under Series 1, 2 & 3

    Sopranos Series 1, 2, 3 & 4

Keep on meaning to watch '24' but don't seem to have enough time!
  18. addyboy Caissa's Angel of Death

In the grand old spirit of resurrecting ancient threads, this was the last to receive a reply in this forum. In no particular order...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (SMG is soooo gorgeous! Alyson Hannigan and Eliza Dushku too!)
Blackadder (Funniest of all the classic comedies)
Only Fools and Horses (Second to the above)
Vicar of Dibley (A dark horse in the best comedy contest recently but affirmed its position in all our hearts with a better than expected showing)
Family Guy (enough said, only cartoon funnier is The Odd Streak in the Daily Mail)
Futurama (Underrated, shame Fox didnt like it enough to save it despite the petition)
The Simpsons (Running out of decent storylines fast but still a classic)
Have I Got News For You (best TV programme ever, not even Blackadder and Family Guy can compete with this)
The Paul Merton Show (much good material)
Chewing the Fat (not great, but ok)

Ok I think thats most of them.
  19. Alex Apple Lord Snowblood Apple

OK, well, Sainsbury's has the League of Gentlemen series 2 for £11.99, so now you've got NO EXCUSE!
  20. Nensha1922 Guest

I can't believe nobody metioned Coupling yet! That's so miles ahead of that Sex and the City crap, which I absolutely detest, and also one of the funniest series I've ever seen. Well, until Jeff was replaced, at least.

Some other great series I liked:
    - The X-Files
    - Monthy Python (of course!)
    - The Simpsons & Futurama
    - Malcolm in the Middle
    - Beavis and Butt-Head (!)
    - Ehh...that's all that comes to mind. There are a few great comedy shows on german TV, but else...nah, not much. There's way too much stupid stuff on.
