Loft review uploaded Mandi's review of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's much delayed Loft is now up at http://www.mandiapple.com/snowblood/loft.htm Discussion of the movie continues [thread=2092]here[/thread]. Thanks Mandi!
What a great review, you made me really wanna see Loft now (even if I was gonna see it anyway )! My favorite line in the review: That said, the pacing almost cripples it in places and sometimes you might think you'd like to poke Kurosawa a few times with a sharp stick to hurry him up a bit,-- Excellent.
Thanks so much Yani - I'm so glad you liked it! I really liked the movie so much, so I was baffled by the neutral reviews I've read elsewhere, and especially so by the super-negative comments at IMDB :dizzy:
One of our local film clubs had a fan-sub showing of this a few weeks ago and I missed it for something else. I regret that a bit now having read this. Good job.
Awesome review! I've been really looking forward to this one and I really hope I can get my hands on a copy soon or at the very least that Netflix will get it in sometime (though I highly doubt that)
Mandi, you have a great way of expressing how beautiful K.Kurosawa's movies really are  Ahhh, you're reminding me why I love his films so much, he's a genius! And by the way, uh... Yea, Miki Nakatani can't act. :snigger: I mean...wow. Stole the words right out of my mouth.
Thanks so much guys! I am honestly baffled as to why so many people have been so harsh towards the movie - I can only hope I'm not going completely doolally in my old age and that it really is as ace as I thought it was  Either way, it really does look incredibly beautiful, I was drooling over so much of the imagery I love KK so much, everything he does appeals to me so personally and deeply
For me, a good review isn't just one which excites the reader about a film which they have not seen but one which also allows viewers who have seen the film to go back and rewatch it armed with new information and a fresh perspective. Mandi's review works perfectly on both counts. I've always enjoyed reading Mandi's reviews as she seems to have a similar appreciation for quieter, more cerebral horror as I do and I think this may be her best work so far. (lovin' your avatar too Mandi)
Thank you so very much pdn, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your super-lovely compliments, I'm extremely flattered and I'm totally chuffed to bits that you really liked my review I do believe we share the same taste for those kinds of movies - Park Ki-Hyung and KK seem to be directors we both have a real liking for and they tend to make very similar types of movie horror-wise IMHO Certainly when I think of 'quiet, cerebral horror' those are the first two names that come to mind for me And thank you for the avatar compliment! I just knew I had to have Inferno as my avatar (and a name change to Our Lady of Darkness, Mater Tenebrarum) after watching it this week
I need to watch some KK movies sometime. I haven't even seen KAIRO (although I did see the remake and yes, it was horrible >.<)!! And you aren't that old are you??
Im not so shure about this movie i unlike other people love almost any movie thats like Ringu or Ju-on, if its done right. Is this anything like them? :-P
(This is Mandi using Alex's account because I've forgotten my password  ) To answer your question, no, it is totally not like either of those two movies. It wouldn't be your cup of tea, I'm sure.
