got this from a friend who lives in japan http://www.shejapan.com/jtyeholder/jtye/living/ghost/ghost1.html
Yeah, Oiwa-san is the legend/kabuki story on which Sadako was based - I have a painting of her on my Ring overview page 8) The story is actually a little longer and more complicated than that page states - there's a full explanation of it in Stephen Addiss' Japanese Ghosts and Demons, which goes into detail about how her ghost shapeshifts into various forms, such as an evil lantern that sets Iyemon's shack on fire 8)
ahaha sounds cool. i searched and found a movie that was made in the 60's. Wish someone would update it...seems like it could be really cool
Whilst surfing Youtube I happened across this montage of ghost pictures from what appears to be a Japanese TV show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGePhNNRHcs Horrible quality, but worth watching perhaps, reminded me of Shutter a bit  EDIT: and another interesting link I just turned up, concerning a Japanese myth of the 'slit-mouth woman', Kuchisake-onna: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuchisake-onna I recall her getting a mention during Ring - hope this hasn't been posted before
That looks like a bunch of clips from a bunch of shows someone put together. I do enjoy these shows...but they usually dedicate 10 minutes to each clip, with an interview with the photographer, and an "ESPer" or psychic's perspective. Takeshi Kitano's show "Unbelieveable" usually has a few ghost pics in late summer...
I just picked up on an interesting character I'd never personally heard of before under the heading of 'traditional school ghosts', from the ever-entertaining Jbox.com mailout: It's a new one on me  And no, I haven't spotted any female lower halves walking around since I got the mailout, but perhaps it only works if you live in Japan, she hasn't yet mastered international travel :snigger: (Hard to get a passport photo I suppose, if you don't have a head.)
Wasn't sure where to list this, but I thought it was so cool I simply had to post it  Chenille Macabre on Etsy have made an evil onryo figure - out of pipecleaners  http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20228316 I am just too tempted to buy this and put it on top of our telly
...)= the site http://www.harapan.co.jp/english/kwaidan/kwaidan_index.htm is down... or at least I can't view it. Luckily, it can still be views at archive.org heheh. Lucky me. Sort of.
