Believe me, if I know next to nothing about anime, then I know even less about J-pop. Please can someone give me recommendations?! I like helium, I like squeaky, I like Dessert in Suicide Circle, I like Morning Musume (aaackkkk!! aliens have invaded my brain!!!! 0X ), and I like the music from Gitaroo Man and Vib-Ribbon PS games :lol: I really would appreciate your knowledge base on this!
try some Polysics (esp New Wave Jacket if you like squeaky) errr not too knowledgeable on J-Pop myself (if you had said J-Rock ) If you want all-encompassing brilliance check out Shiina Ringo. I usually recommend her if anyone mentions pretty much any style of J music as it's hard to pidgeonhole her music into anything besides "sublime" Other than that....err... my usefulness just ran out, sorry :drinking:

err yeh I'd classify her as pop/rock/jazz/blues/experimental/folk/ lol heh as I said, hard to pidgeonhole. I guarantee you this, you won't have heard anything that sounds similar. and if that aint reason enough to d/l some, I dunno what is My favourite track of hers is Gippusu (sometimes romanized as Gibbs) it's probably one of her more commercial sounding songs but I love it. I really like Honnou too, and anything from the Karuki Zamen kuri no Hana album (Yatsuke Shigoto being best track IMO)
My absolute favorite j-pop artist is Utada Hikaru - her stuff is amazing. She sings a song called Hikari which I absolutely love. The artists Sana and Riyu Kosaka are also really good. I've also been hearing a lot about Gackt lately - but haven't heard any of his music. Has anyone heard this guy's music? I would love to hear some feedback.
If you're looking for rock, go for Ringo Shiina. She's amazing. I just picked up one of her concert DVDs yesterday and I'm still in awe. I also recommend Judy & Mary, Malice Mizer, dir en grey, L'Arc~en~Ciel, PIERROT, and Miyavi.

Well, my friend Nakiko is the world's biggest Gackt fan, but I've only heard one track (and that I got off SoulSeek) - but it was really rather good, I shall be tracking some more down Sorry can't offer any more help than that!
My friend is a die-hard Gackt-fan, and she has practically forced me to listen to some of his songs. He can sing, that's for sure :mrgreen: and even if it's not my type of music, I can't say he's bad.
yay finally something i can actually help with! im a big j-pop addict...i run my own channel on irc just serving various albums ^^;;; anyway i listen to alot of different artists... utada hikaru is great she is sings r&b-ish music , her ballads are great hamasaki ayumi - j-pop diva her songs are very catchy she loves to remix her songs like billions of times X_x hirai ken - another j-r&b singer very very good voice i love him >.<!! gackt - fangirl dream come true >.> he is mostly j-rock miyavi - i recently got into his music he is strange Oo but good j-rock amano tsukiko - jrock singer as well not very known i dont think do as infinity great rock group same goes for the brilliant green crystal kay another r&b pop singer she is really cool cuz she isnt really japanese she lives there but her mom is korean and her dad is american very cool those are just some i listen to...ill be more than happy to give recommendations on songs or even share mp3s i have a whole harddrive full of songs and what not [/u]
Words cannot convey the depth of my love for Camui Gaku (see we're on first name terms lol) I even roleplay the poor thing regularly. He'd probably sue me if he knew I make him hide under a table wearing kimonos.....once my Camui went rollerblading with a big bird...well anyway, long story. Yes, Gaku is good and I can't believe I forgot L'arc! Hyde is such a cutie...altho his lack of aging is starting to scare me now. J-pop isn't really my area...I know that Morning Musume are evil and Hikaru rox. If you want a good laugh tho try the new-ish boyband Flame...so hilariously cheesy.

Mizerable is a lovely video-- my favourite is still Mirror, because you rarely ever saw Gackt with his JoB. Plus all that red leather looked fab on them. I wasn't sure about You-kun's mint green hair tho. Such a shame Masa's left....I feel they'll probably split up before I get to go to Japan in 2 years

Ignore us-- we're obsessed. Gackt JoB is a band-- led by Gackt...his JoB are his guitarists Masa (evil little git--how dare he leave!!) You (also violinist/lived with Gaku) bassist Ren (cute redhead) and Chachmaru (lovely hair) oh and Mr. forgotten Toshi the drummer. I feel sorry for drummers, no one loves them lol....cept Shinya and Yoshiki.
