    Grotesque / Gurotesuku (2009)

The official website for Kôji Shiraishi's Grotesque (Gurotesuku) is now online, and there's a trailer for the movie on it.

The screenplay for Grotesque was written by Shiraishi. The movie stars Tsugumi Nagasawa, Hiroaki Kawatsure, and Shigeo Ôsako.

Jolly Roger Inc. (K.K. Jorî Rojâ) is scheduled to release Grotesque theatrically in Japan on January 17th of next year.

Nagasawa - who is primarily an AV (adult video) actress - is also in Takeshi Niizato's upcoming pink film (pinku eiga) M no jubaku, which stars Ai Narita. She was previously in Yoshihiro Nishimura's Tokyo Gore Police (Tôkyô zankoku keisatsu) and Ken'ichi Fujiwara's High School Girl Rika: Zombie Hunter (Saikyô heiki joshikôsei: Rika - zonbi hantâ vs saikyô zonbi Gurorian) - the third movie in the Nihombie (Nihonbi) series.

Here's a synopsis for Grotesque from Nippon Cinema: "The film begins as a beautiful young girl named Aki (AV actress Tsugumi Nagasawa) waits for someone at a coffee shop. However, she doesn't notice that a stranger is closely observing her every move. Soon, Kazuo (Hiroaki Kawatsure) arrives and sits down with her. They share a few laughs before leaving the shop and begin walking down the street together. The person that had been staring at Aki follows them, and his footsteps gradually get closer. ¶ Kazuo and Aki later wake up in a dimly lit room, tied up and gagged, with absolutely no idea what happened to them or how they got there. A man named Tachikawa (Shigeo Ôsako) appears in front of them, and given his vast array of power tools and scary-looking instruments he definitely has some rather disturbing plans in store for the two of them. ¶ To Aki's horror, Tachikawa proceeds to stab Kazuo in the stomach with an ice pick, but he doesn't kill him just yet. Instead, he carefully tends to the wound and disinfects the area before continuing the torture. Tachikawa hacks away at his captives, slicing off and mutilating various parts of their bodies in the most obscene ways imaginable. And if by chance they happen to pass out from the pain, he simply wakes them up with smelling salts so they don't miss anything."

BTW, in my post above, I overlooked the fact that the English-language title of Saikyô heiki joshikôsei: Rika - zonbi hantâ vs saikyô zonbi Gurorian has been changed from "High School Girl Rika: Zombie Hunter" to "RIKA: The Zombie Killer".

Sounds pretty full-on and nasty to me - even in something like Niku Daruma, at least the protagonist allowed his victim to pass out or die any time she felt like it :(

Heaping serving of ero-guro, hold the story, anyone?
  6. i watched the trailer last week...i WANT it now! :D

damn that trailer was sweet! i'm looking forward to this!
It seems to be one of the few films of this style to actually have good production, although a little disappointed to see CGI blood at the end of the trailer. any news of a dvd?
  8. AmongTheOrchids Honey... FLASH!

Sounds like Japan has caught wind of the Saw and Hostel phenomenon. While I am growing tired of the "torture porn" genre, this seems to be a cut (or slice or hack) above the American counterparts as far as brutality goes. It's definitely caught my attention. Sometimes plot can be overrated anyway... ? Any word on when it will come West?

This has no relation to the novel of the same name by Natsuo Kirino, I'm guessing...

Because her other novel, Out, was adapted into a movie. Just making sure, yup.

---Yeah. Confirmed by watching the trailer....

Sadly, it's not an adaption. But still looks interesting. Lol.

...except the BBFC have just rejected the film outright!

Sigh. Though reading some Facebook comments on a friend's wall from some dyed-in-the-wool cult movie magazine critics it might not be all that much cop in the first place.

    really really lame

    just finished watching it.

i can see why BBFC banned it, then again they either ban or cut most things but this was start to finish gore, a fair amount of which was sexual.
there were lots of things that reminded me of Flower of Flesh and Blood, only an updated version.
the fx are very good, except at the end where it's CGI. and i couldn't help but notice that the bad guy looked like takeshi kitano.

the thing i didn't like about this movie was that it's not a 'fun' gore flick. there are lots of sad moments which end up making you just feel bad for the couple, but maybe that was the point.

it's worth a watch but i don't think i'll be watching it again any time soon, i'd much rather sit through another viewing of Niku Daruma.

*shrugs* It's hardly any great surprise that the BBFC banned it outright - after all, the Guinea Pig movies still aren't easily available over here (I believe they're still banned in the UK...?) so why would this film be any different? I can't really feel sorry for the distributors, they should have realised that that kind of content is deemed completely unacceptable over here - and if splatterman is comparing it to both Flower of Flesh and Blood and Niku Daruma, it seems pretty stupid on their part if they really thought it would even get passed with cuts... :dizzy:
  18. splatterman Guest

Actually i'm not sure whether they have even tried to get a UK release for Guinea Pig, obviously wouldn't pass Devil's Experiment and Flower, but i recon they would pass the rest.

Some parts are very Flower of Flesh and Blood, it's nothing like Niku Daruma but i'd just prefer to watch that over this any time, actually i'd quite like to watch that anyway.

    Hate reading stories like this...

Who knows? Maybe some good will come of this and Noroi could get a UK release.
