The acclaimed Thai horror Alone gets its first English subbed release on Korean dvd on the 17th of this month. Also out on Korean dvd are Muoi: The Legend Of A Portrait on the 18th and Black House on the 20th.
SHUTTER drops July 15th...American version of a Japanese horror, but they did it right...and they've got a cool release site where you can upload photos and make your own 'spirit photography' pic. Mine's here: http://shutterdvd.com/view.php?uid=764fd5a5-794e-430c-bd07-774cd1bc9a6f.jpg Somehow the horrors that are grounded in something real and documented are all the scarier...I started looking into Spirit Photography and it's some creepy stuff.
Shutter is originally Thai, the remake is an American and Japanese co production. its directed by one of my favorite Japanese directors Masayuki Ochiai so i am very interested. Also because it stars Megumi okina.
Whoops! Ya--the day after I posted that, I remembered it was originally Thai, not Japanese. Durh. I saw that 'spirit photo' that I made on their site in a banner ad on one of the other movie boards, it was wild to see it up there. They also added a decent article on revenge themes in horror movies to the release site, which is such a big part of the Asian horror genre.
hi,, does anyone know the release date for 'muzan-e' on the unearthed films label.. i tried unearthed films website and it just said coming soon, its been comming soon for the past 6 months, i even sent them an email regarding about the film and they never got back to me,, that was a few months ago, im just wondering if any people in here can help me thanks
Just a heads-up for gore fiends and mondo fans out there (ahem, Splatterman). The infamous Orozco The Embalmer is out on dvd. A documentary film made in Columbia that focuses on the work of (you've guessed it) an embalmer, it was directed by Japanese filmmaker Tsurisaki Kiyotaka and produced (and financed) by Susuma Saegusa (who should be well known to gore fiends). http://www.diabolikdvd.com/category/Cult-Favorites/Orozco-the-Embalmer-DVD-(NTSC-All-Region).html
thanks for the heads up pdn! i've been meaning to catch this for a while. there's also this super limited release a guy on youtube does and unboxing for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSr4egHLxKY&feature=related unfortunately the only place i know that sold this version is now out of business.
Well there's a coincidence! I was just on that guy's blog about ten minutes ago. http://www.sinsofcinema.com/ That limited edition looks absolutely stunning! Bad taste be dammed! I want a pack of those playing cards. Have you ever seen Orozco, Splatterman? I saw it on vhs years ago. It's pretty tough stuff.
i haven't, nor have i seen any good Shock-u in a while. I'm really strapped for cash at the moment so i'm putting off buying it for now. Although it has been on my list for quite some time. Although if i see that limited edition pop up anywhere i may have to splash out.
There is some interesting stuff out/ coming out on dvd at the moment. Cinema Epoch have a bunch of v-cinema releases out. These include: Hitori Kakurenbo, being released as "Hide And Go Kill", the original v-cinema anthology that has spawned a small cottage industry of Kakurenbo films. Yamada Masafumi's "Hitori kakurenbo gekijoban", a cinema released sequel to "Hitori Kakurenbo", is being released as "Hide and go kill 2". Also from Cinema Epoch are "Death Tube", "Psycho Shark' (also known as "Jaws in Japan"), "Killer Car", "The Roomate", "Slaughter Island" (called "Juto" in Japan), "Scream Girls" ("Hikiko san" in Japan) and the Korean monster movie "Demeking". Cinema Epoch Also of interest is a new company called Japan Flix. They have a line up of v-cinema/ low budget Japanese films such as "Teke Teke", "Tomie vs Tomie" and "Seifuku Survivor Girl". Their website has been up for a while but nothing seems to be available yet. None of the major online retailers have any of their titles available for pre-order either. Japan Flix Takashi Shimizu's "Shock Labyrinth" gets a R2 release at the end of January. The dvd is supposedly going to be a functional 3D release. Also up for pre-order (Dec. 9th release) from Hong Kong is the Pang Brothers' "The Child's Eye". I'm not entirely sure if the dvd will be 3D or not.
