I will throw my hands up and admit that there are a couple of really good camera set-ups in one of the chase scenes. But that's about it. I mean the original french "Taxi" trilogy wasn't exactly classic or action-packed but there was a certain amount of good fun involved and had some really nice, engaging performances. The US version has SNL's Jimmy Fallon who couldn't carry a movie home from Blockbuster.
I haven't seen Taxi 3 yet, but the first two have been really enjoyable, action-packed fun movies, with good main actors. Judging from the trailer of the remake it won't be the same.
I don't mind remakes when they are done in moderation but the shear amount of them being churned out or considered (not just Asian but in general) is just plain lazy on the studios part (and as others have said playing safe), it's basically killing My interest in mainstream cinema. I also agree that The Ring probably turned out as good as it ever could be but I must say that the prospect of an original The Ring 2 fills Me with some hope and I hope that they don't ruin a great chance.
I'm a gentleman - the young lady I was with had bowed to my wishes the last couple of times we went to the movies and as it was her turn to pick on friday night, I couldn't help but go along with her choice. I even kept a straight face all the way through the movie - even though on the inside I was sliding razor blades across my eyeballs and screaming "Make it stop! Make it stop!".... Anyway, am I the only one who gets a horrible shiver up the old spine at the thought of this remake/update - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0432291/ Yup, kiddies....a remake of "The Fog" ...with John Carpenter as Executive Producer....f*ck me sideways!
Being a gentleman is a fine excuse, there's so few of us around. Just so long as you didn't expect it to be a good film. What the hell can they add to a remake of The Fog? Probably something along the lines of a rawk soundtrack, trendy editing techniques and loud noises to announce the cat's leaping out of the fog or something. Plus I expect there'll be some dramatic 'twist' linking the main characters to the denizens of the fog.
Nah....I pretty much expected it to be naff. Well, there'll no doubt be a greater number of 'teen' cast-members for a start. And the you just know the Adrienne Barbeau character is going to a twenty-something hipster - the fact that she's the local DJ will lend itself to trendy 'rawk' soundtrack.
Words can't express my feelings about this so instead I ask you to think back to the Peanuts cartoon and remember the sound emitted by Charlie Brown when he misses the football.
Or the noise Sideshow Bob made everytime he stepped on a garden rake in that 'Cape Fear' episode of "The Simpsons".....
Hollywood Remakes Is anyone else getting tired of Dreamworks remakes of popular Asian movies? It seems like every time I find a movie I love it's remade into a dumbed down version of itself not giving the origional masterpiece credit for any of the influences. Some of the titles that i've heard that they are planning to remake (Or have been remade) are: "Dark Water", "Golum", "The Grudge" (as we all know), The Eye, and most recently I heard that Dreamworks bought the rights to make a version of " A Tale of Two Sisters". I think poeple should release the origional version of any film ( either in theatres or on video) before they do a remake of it. But, that's not how it works here. I just think they're taking some of the essence out of the origional movie in their Americanized version. I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same.
I save that one for disgust and mild disappoint. The pure anger of the sorely put upon is Charlie Brown and for true happiness I go for that weird squeaky noise occasionally made by Stimpy. And some people say I need a life.
Rumours are strong that Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell are gonna produce a remake of... The Evil Dead. Uh huh... No facts yet though, only rumours. http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=13348 "Rumour has it that Raimi will produce the new instalment, with a "famed Asian director" in talks to direct."
He put's off doing part 4 for years on the grounds that he doesn't think there's a big enough audience for "Evil Dead" movies anymore and now he's doing a remake...? I give up!
More rumors, from Dark Horizons: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news04/041118d.php and http://www.darkhorizons.com/news04/041119d.php
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That's a remake that's destined to fail just because the original is that friggin' good. IMO, they made a perfect representation of what they sought out to do the first time. Anything afterwards will be like month-old wheat bread.
the TALE OF TWO SISTERS dreamworks aquisition happened a while ago, but i don't think they've begun principal photography yet. and i believe that the original is going to make the rounds in the US, so along with the THE GRUDGE being a hit and DARK WATER coming out soon, there's a good chance it'll be made soon. my only hope is that they don't turn it into anything like that god-awful FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC adaptation. still, i'm curious as to how they're going to screw this one up (or not)
I have read this alot. It's not taking the essencse out of the original. The original is still there to be enjoyed. I really don't care if a lot of people see a movie I love. I speak for myself when I say that I would have never seen Ringu if it weren't for The Ring. And in turn, I got exposed to a whole slew of Asian horror films. If a remake can do that for me, it has to be able to do that for someone else, I would think anyway. I don't agree that Dreamworks doesn't give the original credit. Like I said, that's how I found out about it. Maybe I misread what you wrote but Dreamworks has nothing to do with this movie or The Grudge. And speaking of credit. In the title credits for The Grudge it says "JU-ON" in huge characters and then says "BASED ON THE MOVIE JU-ON...." So I think credit is being given. A Tale of Two Sisters remake probably will fail cinematically because it's nearly perfect. But I'll see it.
Anything & Everything America picks up to remake invariably is ****e!!!! Cases in point... Ring Italian Job Get Carter Taxi Gone in 60 Seconds Kellys Heroes And thats just the few I can think of. I dont see why they have to go & spoil the originals with a dodgy copy to help bring it to another audience surely they should have relalised the originals appealed to them in the first place for a reason...They were good not just so you could make more money. Something that makes my blood boil on the remake stakes is that I've heard that Tom Cruise wants the rights to Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels & Snatch to Americanise them...I mean WTF the whole point of those 2 movies was the cockney Ganster thing I certainly cant picture Cruise/Pitt/Clooney/who ever the hell else they wanna get carry of Jason Stratham or Vinnie Jones or Dexter Fletcher I mean come off it Cruise/Pitt etc. do me a favour...."LEAVE OUR FILMS THE F*** ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Anyway Rant done :-x Neil
